How to keep in your story

How to keep in the story_300610In fiction, a writer creates an entire world. Even though travel writing is about true stories and true journeys, you still need to create a world. You do this by:

  1. Keep returning to your narrative thread.
  2. If you take a detour, ensure there is a signpost back to the thread.
  3. Link the beginning to the end with the ‘circle’ trick.
  4. Use repeated motifs to re-enforce imagery & the place you are describing.
