Travel Writing Competitions —
It’s worth entering travel writing competitions for the simple fact that you have a deadline. Any professional knows that a deadline forces you to finish a story.
For Australian residents, The East Gippsland TAFE Travel Writing Awards are on again. Your job is to write a 1500-word travel article on any experience anywhere in the world. First prize AU$1500, second $500 and third, $250. Closing date for entries is 30 September, 2010.
For international travel writers and bloggers, guidegecko.com has launched a writing contest. They’re looking for original submissions of 32 pages or more on any aspect of travel, lifestyle and entertainment. The winner is flown to the world’s biggest book fair in Frankfurt where the guide will be showcased on the Insight Guide booth. You then hope that a publisher will pick up the manuscript.
This is for those practiced at writing longer pieces of work or bloggers with plenty of website content. But hurry: submission deadline is 15 September, 2010.
